Our focus is on our mission to create a living history museum based in the Philadelphia region of the Delaware River. Our plan is to then broaden the scope to the majority of the Eastern seaboard. Currently, our efforts are on historical outreach to the community to bring this rich history to life while working towards finding a site along the Delaware River, fund and build a brick & mortar, as well as find us a new ship and open the museum.
Both sides had Merchant “Privateer” Mariners in their employ. Historical documents show more British or Loyalist privateers (2,500+) entered the war, but the Continentals (1,697+) persevered. We are endeavoring to piece together what life was like for both sides of the war.
Is there a difference? Yes… Depending upon what side you are on, your interpretation of the rules of engagement, and whether or not you have a Letter Of Marque. Not all Pirates were Privateers, BUT all Privateers were Pirates. Many factors made that determination. For some the lines were clear, others not so much.
